A New Year - Stepping on the Spirit of the Earth

Canada Post Stamp

a prosperous peaceful new year to all my family & loved ones

"During the Jishin Balpgi (Stepping on the Spirit of the Earth) festival, a group of Poongmul (Korean drums) players called the Durepae, first travels around the village playing on the Jang-go (hourglass-shaped drum), Buk (the drum), Kwenggari (small gong) and Jing (large gong). This is followed by visits to private dwellings to wish residents peace and good fortunes for the new year through a mixture of drumming, dance and chants which everyone is encouraged to join in. In return, the hosts offer rice cakes and wine to the group and make a general donation that is used for the betterment of the entire village." - Sol

:: note :: ... have always loved Canada Post’s series of Lunar New Year commemorative issues ... AeRan is on Paris streets moving from Korean site to site drumming in the tradition of Jishin Balpgi cleansing the "village" ... I took students to Barry Ahenakew sharing the story of the Thunderbird dance (Prairie Chicken Dance) at the First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv) hosting Aboriginal Storytelling Month Oral History & Indigenous Knowledge in an act of cleansing our hearts ... great ways to begin the new year ...
