Jindo (dis)appears

 ... walking on the edge trails of Bukhansan Park on a humid, late Sunday evening ... have taken to walking b efore sleep to cope with the heat ... it is 10 pm ... the path quiet, empty & silent yet lighted enough (not sure am actually allowed in the park but there is no locked gate, no English signage so will plead ignorance) ... enjoy feeling the way by foot loving the steep rocky climb ... reminded of my adventures on Keats island many years ago ...  ... the sound of a small creek on the left with quite a drop & the thick forest rising on the right  ... the path wide & winding ... tranquil ... ... thinking in Canada might be concerned about bears, coyote and such ... as if conjured to dispel my notions a huge growl rustles the bush beside me ... a large white dog appears ... then another ... another ... three beautiful white dogs one medium large followed by two others slightly smaller faced me ...  ... startled frozen in my tracks, to disguise my anxi...

Asian Centre UBC ... sitting in a room for ten hours listening to a series of lectures in a language i don't understand nor speak & unable to communicate with half of the participants is a powerful experience ... AeRan delievered a two day seminar at the Asian Centre @ UBC ...  an absoulutely beautiful setting ... i knew her material well being the topic of her Phd. thesis which has occupied the past six years & ... i have followed her many conference presentations ...  in fact, we were returning to the site of one of her first presentations ... ... it was a truly remarkable performance ... the electricity of her presence as she delievered was at times overwhelming ... the scope and range were both vast and distinctly detailed ... the conversation elicited was "wild" (the term she used) ... the eager attention whether youthful scholars in the midst of their training or those seasoned academics from visiting scholars to professors and experts from various d...

Enough to say

About the distance to Paris, Saskatoon, Seoul & Tokyo, whatever else, it is enough to say it's far. And the distance between my love and me measured by snowstorms and oil massages, it is enough to say we're near. We cannot see beyond these worlds, pixels, resolving on flat white screens.
